Towards the end of 2017 I participated in the 'B-Side Project’ remix competition. Original music compositions were submitted by a variety of artists and then randomly assigned to Producers who in turn remixed their assigned original track. I was delighted to receive a track by Italian Composer Saro Tribastone titled 'Babel Blue’, a Mediterranean instrumental piece showcasing Saro’s locational flavour and multi-instrumentalist music abilities.

Expanding on the original composition, I went to work developing the remix based on Saro’s original foundation with the intention of shifting the tracks folk/world aesthetic into more modern, punchy territory while retaining the bulk of Saro’s nuanced performances. Although the track was fundamentally an Instrumental, I stumbled across what became the differential point for the remix; a series of Sicilian proverbs which featured on the documentary ’Nine Good Teeth’.

The competition element came and went and the track remained dormant for the following two years. Upon searching through some old material, I recently stumbled across the remix and approached Saro about a potential release, so we’ve done just that!

Saro’s Biography:

Saro Tribastone is a composer and performer of Rumba, Nuevo Flamenco and Mediterranean Music. A highly talented musician, he skilfully plays a number of different string instruments to create his unique sound. He uses mainly a flamenco guitar and a greek tzouras, also a mandolin, an acoustic guitar, a south-italian "beating" guitar.

To date Saro has two albums and four singles to his credit: ‘Mirage' (2019), 'Babel Blue' (2017), ‘Remèny' and ‘Salinas' as singles; the full length instrumental World Music album titled 'Viento De Siroco' (2009) and the EP ‘Anusa' (2006). He has also produced two albums as Cordasicula ('Voce' & 'Aria ca spira') and composed many soundtracks for documentaries.

Through his music Saro is able to share the rich and vibrant images of his homeland, and the spirit of this beautiful land is evident in every track. After only a few minutes you’ll be whisked away to the Mediterranean shore…
